Year 3 Week 1 of Attachment





Monday 27.08.07
Woke Up @ 5.30am.. Reached Clementi MRT at Ard 6.15am like tat then took the train to Simei station.. Meeting Tini @ 7.15am.

As the both of us were first timers @ CGH.. we had no clue on how or where the hospital is, But since tini roughly knew where it was so jus follow her lor. after like walking for abt 5 mins, suddenly i noticed a banner saying blood donation then was chating with tini on my rejection @ HSA then we realise tat we had oreadi reached CGH!! omg didnt expect the building to look so SHORT!... I tot it was a tall building -_-'''..

As we enter, not knowing where to meet... we saw Jega then jus sat next to him lor since the whole grp have to meet Mr Ismail first thing cus of the PDA thingy.

After everyone have reached n PDA thingy was Updated.. Mr Ismail brought in the A/E Grp into the department while we.. the OT Grp waited outside for him. After he came out.. he then led us into the building in search of the OT.. Unlucky for him this grp all first timer @ CGH so we were like Lost Chickens following a lost Hen... wandering around the building hahahas.

After much difficulty.. we found the OT then the Staff Nurse Directed us to the changing room to change into our Scrub suit.. YIPEEE get to wear scrub suit! but hor its SOOO Aunty like lor.

We went into the OT n Sister Chong gave an Orientation round the theatre..

The Operating Theatre is separated into Major OT (MOT) n Day Surgery OT (DSOT). then sister also listed out the rules n regulations of the theatre.

After tat she told us tat our shift is onli 8-4.. tat means for 2 wks my work is onli till 4pm!!.. she then said we had to bring our own food as if we wan to eat outside.. we have to change again( So MaFan).. then we had to get our own slippers as there isnt enough for all of us ( Geeez..)

After tat we split up to go to our respective theatres... For Day one i was @ Theatre 6.. One of the super major theatres.. Wah Lou.. First Surgery to watch is Removal of one Kidney.. Somemore is CA Kidney!!! the operation was soo long lor.. but finalli when the surgeons manage to remove the affected kidney.. OMG its SUPER BIG LOR.. i would say 3 times bigger than a normal one..

Oh Boy.. I hate it when the Diaemeter (dunno spelling) Starts cutting n burning the flesh n skin.. Horrible smell sia.. make me have headache onli

After standing for 7 hours plus 1 hr break.. time to go home..
Went to KRSS to meet mum.. told her abt my experience.. hehe

Tuesday 28.08.07

Went to work with Tini ...

Was Posted to Theatre 3.. Orthopedic Theatre..in this theatre, its all about fractures etc.. dealing with bones one lah. Got alot related to Sports one

Got to Noe Li Ping..

hmm that day saw some interesting cases such as clavicle grafting n Plating, Menicus repair..omg first time in my life i saw the bone lor plus a menicus wah lou like sausage or!! (ewww).. Alot of Drilling and Hammering.. Sounds Horrible lah.. but beri interesting to watch =p

Oh yah when the menicus repair was going on.. the surgeon had this metal tubing in the patient's Knee n Alot of Water was Coming out lor.. i would say its a beri wet operation.


Had Lunch with Li Ping @ QI JI.. didnt manage to bring our own food lah.. hmm the nasi lemak is not bad! plus got staff discounts =p hehe.. Tini then joined us

Went home with the 2 of them..



Wednesday n Thursday 29 &30/8
Posted to Theatre 8 on Both Days..
This Theatre is for General Surgeries lah then the staff there are more flexible.. allow me to assist them in setting up the cleansing trolley, opening up sterile pack and take part in swab count. Sister Lee was the in-charge there.. She's Great sia! hahas beri friendly one.
hmm Cant realli remember wad were the procedures tat i observed those days except the Skin Grafting, Removal of occipital Lump & one beri interesting one was the Open Cholecystectomy.. omg tat case.

It was a super long operation lah, got part 1 & 2 .. For Part 1,after i came back from break.. saw this big stone on the kidney dish.. after tat the surgeon then told the medical students tat he will open up the gall bladder to show wads inside..

I Nearly Fainted LOR... Practicalli Speechless When the Surgeon cut open the gall bladder then the stone inside was as big as a bottle Cork! Its HUGE!.. in fact the surgeon stated tat thats the biggest stone he has seen so far... somemore the patient is sooo skinny lor omg. Jus imagine.. 2 bottle size stones Found in a Small Gallbladder..

After that.. its part 2.. another surgeon took over lah .. its patient arh.. GOt SO MUCH Stones in His body tat the surgeon had to use laser to Blast the stones into fragments so tat it was come out with the urine.. SO COOL Lor.. but hor even though use of laser is beri fast.. but for this patient cus of soo much big stones.. the surgeon had to blast the stones carefulli. haiz n also with so much radiation (Laser plus Continuous X-ray)going on.. i had to stand behind a shield to protect myself from the radiation... Cant Move around lor



Hmm the onli funny part was tat on wednesday.. during one of the operations.. got 2 medical students walked in to observe lah but hor they were so stuck up!.. i was observing they jus stand infront n block my view lor! then suddenly 1 of the surgeon started looking @ me n the medical students then he said " Eh you two.. do u know u wore the mask upside down".. after he said tat wah lou the medical students realised their mistakes n rush into the induction room lor.. HAHAHAHAHAHA ORBI Quack!



Went to KRSS on Wed again.. mum Bought salted Fish Fried Rice From jurong for thurs lunch
Then on Thurs Met mum @ Clementi NTUC..mum bought Boon Tong Kee Chicken Rice for my tml lunch :)

So Boring Lor.. cannot do much cus tat day there was onli 3 cases n 2 of which is private one :(


I got bored so went to ask Sister chong is there any other theatre i can go to since mine close liao.. she then told me to go to EOT1.. which is Emergency OT.. Cus tat day got a few beri interesting cases such as tracheostomy, Hemicolectomy n appendisectomy..

Went there lah.. Wah Lou the Surgeon was Damn Funny Lor hahas Cus for the Hemicolectomy which is removal of part of the colon.. the patient is super Fat then when the surgeon walked in... his first comment was " Wah Lou this Patient should go on a diet b4 coming for Opt" hahahs. then the operation was super long lah cus when the surgeon cut open the abdomen .. he had to dig n dig to find the colon.. he couldnt find it due to so much fats.. hahahahahahahs Super Funny.
